An Iowa City man has been charged with using false information in acquiring a weapon.
Police say the incident in question occurred the morning of October 29th at Scheels in Coral Ridge Mall.
34-year-old Scott Hoff of Wayne Avenue reportedly attempted to purchase a Ruger revolver and filled out the ATF form necessary for acquisition of a firearm. He indicated that he was not an unlawful user of illegal substances; however, Hoff was previously convicted of a drug offense and was served a notice in April of this year that he was prohibited from possessing firearms.
Hoff allegedly admitted that he’s been a marijuana user for around 15 years, therefore knowingly providing false information on the ATF form.
A warrant was issued on November 30th; Hoff was taken into custody Sunday night and charged with False Information in Acquiring a Weapon, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
