A Washington Iowa man was taken into custody after allegedly threatening to shoot up the Panchero’s location in North Liberty.

The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of November 17th at the Community Drive location.  33-year Chris Kopet of Kiwi Avenue allegedly called the restaurant, threatening to “shoot it up.”  Once Kopet was identified as the subject, he allegedly admitted to calling the establishment and being aggressive towards staff. He reportedly said he didn’t believe he threatened harm to anyone but might have. He then allegedly said, “I called them and probably was an a**hole and said some things I probably should not, and probably wasn’t the best thing to do.”

The reason Kopet called the restaurant in the first place was that his spouse reportedly felt uncomfortable there earlier in the day. However, he also maintained he wasn’t taking any of it back and believed he was defending his spouse.

A warrant was issued on the 21st, and Kopet was taken into custody early Wednesday morning. He’s been charged with first degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
