Iowa Senator Joni Ernst choked on some food at a Senate lunch on Thursday, and had to have the Heimlich maneuver performed on her to restore her breathing.
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who is a medical doctor and an ophthalmologist, performed the life-saving procedure and was lauded as a hero by his Republican colleagues.
POLITICO congressional bureau chief Burgess Everett broke the news on X, otherwise known as Twitter. The post was retweeted by Ernst who added, “Can’t help but choke on the woke policies Dems are forcing down our throats.”
It was Iowa Day at the luncheon and the senators were eating pork chops and ribeye steaks.
