Iowa City Police say they’ve arrested a wanted burglary suspect after he allegedly parked illegally in a handicapped spot.
Arrest records indicate 24-year-old Cameron Bailey of North Liberty parked his 2016 Dodge Charger in a handicapped spot at the V.A. Hospital on Highway 6 West just after 5:45 Monday night. Bailey had no placard for the vehicle, and his driving privileges are revoked until July of 2024 for an Operating While Intoxicated test refusal. Police say Bailey refused to identify himself and repeatedly reached into his vehicle despite being told not to do so. He also allegedly resisted handcuffing, resisted being searched and resisted being placed into a patrol car upon his arrest. Police say a search of Bailey’s vehicle turned up four packages of marijuana under the driver’s seat.
Bailey was wanted for a reported burglary in North Liberty earlier this month. North Liberty Police say just before 7:45 on the night of November 12th Bailey tried to force open the front door of his next-door neighbor’s house on Savannah Drive while the resident tried to keep it shut. Witnesses say Bailey’s foot crossed the threshold into the house, but he never made full entry.
Bailey is charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, Driving While Revoked, Interference With Official Acts and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 12 years in prison.
