New allegations of unprofessional behavior have been leveled against the Linn County prosecutor’s office.
Linn County legal assistant Bonnie Waller filed a lawsuit earlier this month against the county and attorneys Monica Slaughter and Nick Maybanks after alleged sexually inappropriate behavior from Slaughter in the workplace. Among the allegations are that Slaughter frequently made comments about Waller’s breasts, Slaughter once referred to Waller as “Tits McGee”, and that Slaughter called other female coworkers “bitch” and the c-word.
Former Linn County employee Rena Schulte has now reached out to KCJJ with more allegations. Schulte says she can verify some of the allegations made in the lawsuit. She also told KCJJ that Slaughter regularly parked in handicapped spots at the Linn County Courthouse despite not being handicapped, Slaughter once referred to a gay client by a homophobic slur, and that Slaughter regularly used a slur commonly used against the differently-abled.
Schulte also accuses Slaughter of making inappropriate comments in the workplace, including once asking Schulte, “What is the proper way to say that the defense attorney is being a punk ass bitch?”. She’s also accused of calling a co-worker a “condescending fucking asshole,” and that “someone needs to put his bald ass in his place”.
Inside the courtroom, Slaughter also allegedly once called a defendant a “dick” and openly joked about the word “pussy” in front of defense attorneys.
Schulte told KCJJ she can back up allegations that staff at the Linn County Attorney’s office, including Maybanks, knew about Slaughter’s behavior and did nothing to stop it. That’s despite Waller saying she complained about the behavior on multiple occasions.
In the lawsuit, Waller alleges discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
