An Iowa City man accused of sexually assaulting a child has been given a suspended sentence.

That ruling came from Judge David Cox late last week. Court records posted this week indicate 37-year-old Ronald Dixon was given a five-year suspended prison sentence and two years of probation and he will be placed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for the next ten years.

Dixon had initially been charged with two counts each of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse and Lascivious Acts With A Child. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says the alleged victim told investigators that Dixon had inappropriate sexual contact with her on multiple occasions between approximately May of 2018 and May of 2020. The girl estimates she was ten or 11 years old when the incidents took place.

If convicted on all charges, Dixon would have faced a maximum of 70 years in prison.

Dixon agreed to plead guilty to a charge of Lascivious Acts With A Child Causing Pain or Discomfort. All other charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
