Hiawatha woman pulled over for allegedly watching videos while driving on I-380 faces numerous drug charges

A Linn County woman who Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over after she was allegedly watching videos while driving on Interstate 380 now faces numerous drug charges.

According to arrest records, deputies pulled over 31-year-old Chasidy Roberts of Hiawatha as she was driving a 2010 Mazda CX-7 northbound on I-380 near North Liberty just after 10:30 Saturday night.  She was allegedly watching a video on her phone…which was sitting on her dashboard…as she was driving.

Investigators say the vehicle smelled of marijuana. A probable cause search reportedly turned up two jars filled with a green leafy substance as well as a waxy substance, a pipe containing the same waxy substance, a THC vape, THC edibles, a crystal-like substance, and pink and white prescription pills. Roberts allegedly admitted that the pills were Lorazepam she had gotten from  a family member.

Roberts was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one count each of Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of over three years in jail.
