Cedar Rapids couple injured in Black Hawk County OWI accident

A Cedar Rapids couple were injured when they struck a vehicle that ran a stop sign in BlackHawk County Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred on US63 at East Cedar Wapsi Road, south of Denver, just before 3pm. The Iowa State Patrol says 45-year-old Matthew Matthias of Readlyn, Iowa, failed to yield to a Honda CRV driven by 60-year-old Charles Stone of Cedar Rapids.  The Honda struck Matthias’ Toyota, injuring Stone and his passenger, 56-year-old Lily Stone.

The couple were taken to Allen Hospital for treatment of their injuries; their conditions are unknown. Matthias was charged for OWI and failure to yield. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
