An area transient was arrested Saturday morning after police reportedly found her on the ground in the middle of an assault on an ex-boyfriend.
According to the arrest report, 27-year-old Jaetecia Higgins approached the man on the 1700 block of Waterfront Drive and pushed him to the ground. She then allegedly began hitting and biting him. When officers arrived, the two were on the ground, with Higgins reportedly holding the man’s legs and biting his thigh. He was trying to pull away from Higgins, and suffered abrasions to his hands and face along with pain on his left thigh.
Officers reportedly had to carry Higgins to the side of the road to get her off of the concrete, and Higgins allegedly rolled around and kicked at the officers. She reportedly refused to walk to the squad car and had to be carried. Once inside, Higgins kicked at the officers, refused to remain in the back of the car, and allegedly began hitting her head against the window. One of the officers had to ride in the back of the vehicle with Higgins to prevent her from injuring herself.
Higgins and the man have been in an intimate relationship, and have lived together within the past year. She has a prior conviction for domestic assault from February of this year.
Higgins was charged with 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
