City releases statement about shots fired incident that locked down Iowa City High School

The City of Iowa City has released more details about a shots fired incident that locked down City High yesterday afternoon.

According to the release, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1800 Block of High Street at 3:36 pm. Evidence of shots fired was located at the scene.

Due to the close geographic proximity, this incident required a precautionary temporary lockdown of City High School, which was lifted Wednesday afternoon.

An email from Superintendent Matt Degner sent to district parents about the incident stated that City High was placed in “secure mode” while police were investigating the incident. The incident remains under investigation. No additional information is being made available at this time.
