An Iowa City man faces a weapons charge after a traffic stop Saturday night.

Police say 26-year-old Dustan Turner of Erobi Lane was stopped near the intersection of Gilbert Street and Stevens Drive after rolling through a red light at Gilbert’s intersection with Highway 6.  He also reportedly had expired plates on his Honda HRV Sport.

A check of Turner’s vehicle allegedly turned up several marijuana roaches and the cartridge for a vape pen.  A 9mm firearm was also reportedly in his possession.

Because of the drugs allegedly found in the vehicle, Turner was ineligible to carry a weapon at that time.  In addition, a check of Turner’s records showed that his permit to carry was suspended.

He’s been charged with Possession of Controlled Substances and Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons, both serious misdemeanors. If convicted on both counts, Turner could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
