An Iowa City woman is accused of nearly hitting a squad car from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office head-on as it was responding to an emergency call late Friday night.

The involved deputy was driving through Iowa City while responding to a one-vehicle crash on Morse Road near Highway 1 with her lights and siren activated just after 10:45 p.m. As the officer crested the hill on Governor Street at Market Street, she noticed a Honda SUV heading towards her southbound against the one-way, nearly striking the patrol car. The deputy followed the vehicle into an alley two blocks away.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old Sasha Alexander of Muscatine Avenue, allegedly showed signs of intoxication. Her breath alcohol level was measured at .172%.
Alexander is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and Violating a One-Way Traffic Designation.

The driver of the vehicle that went into the ditch near Morse, 60-year-old Diane Shawver of Cedar Bluff, was also charged with OWI. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says her breath alcohol level was measured at .301% and .266%.
