Iowa City firefighters were called to a blaze on the 1700 block of South Riverside Drive just before 6:00 Saturday night. The smoke could be seen for miles before the fire was brought under control. Because the fire was coming from the area of the Iowa City Municipal Airport, many KCJJ listeners thought it may have been from a plane crash. But airport officials say it appeared to be coming from a nearby homeless encampment.
No details have been released by Iowa City fire or police officials.
