Iowa City Federation of Labor news release

The Iowa City Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, has endorsed the following candidates for upcoming local school board and city council elections, and encourages community members to cast a vote for these candidates on or before November 7th:

Iowa City Community School District Board

  • Molly Abraham

  • Charlie Eastham

  • Mitch Lingo

  • Lisa Williams

Iowa City City Council

  • Andrew Dunn

  • Josh Moe

  • Mazahir Salih

  • Pauline Taylor

Coralville Mayor and City Council

  • Meghann Foster (Mayor)

  • Royce Peterson (Council)

Candidates were endorsed based on their support for core issues affecting local working families, including commitments to maintain productive collective bargaining relationships with city and school district employees and to adopt fair contracting standards that ensure public investments create living-wage jobs.

“At a time when Iowa workers and their unions are facing repeated attacks from anti-worker state legislation, it’s more important than ever to elect strong local leaders who stand in solidarity with workers. These candidates have all expressed a desire to work with union members to defend worker rights and pursue policies that advance racial and economic justice in our community,” said Cole Eckhardt, Vice President of the Iowa City Federation of Labor.

Union delegates voted on candidate endorsements following an extensive process including candidate education events and review of candidate questionnaires.

The Iowa City Federation of Labor is a coalition of more than 15 local unions representing thousands of workers in Johnson and Washington counties.
