A North Liberty woman was arrested early Sunday after allegedly trying to enter two closed businesses.

Arrest records indicate 45-year-old Richan Cherryholmes of Whitman Avenue was called as an intoxicated female who left the Hampton Inn on 1st Avenue in Coralville just after midnight driving a large black SUV. She allegedly asked for the address of the Casey’s on the Coralville Strip, typed the address in her phone and drove off.

An officer traveling southbound on 20th Avenue saw a vehicle that matched the description of Cherryholmes’ vehicle in the convenience store’s parking lot. Casey’s had already closed by that time, so she headed northbound, passing the officer. He followed Cherryholmes to the parking lot at the nearby HyVee. She reportedly got out of the vehicle and began trying to open the doors to the already-closed store.  Upon contact, Cherryholmes allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes and had the odor of ingested alcohol.  After showing measurable signs of impairment, she reportedly admitted to drinking. She refused a PBT.

Cherryholmes was charged with first offense OWI and could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.
