Hitting a woman on an Iowa City bus with a stick led to a larger fight involving an Iowa City man.

Police say the incident occurred near the intersection of Washington and Clinton Streets at around 11:30am Thursday.  33-year-old Sean Christopher of Catskill Court allegedly hit a woman on the City bus with a stick, unprovoked. The woman’s male friend stood up to confront Christopher, and the two began fighting.

Christopher was removed from the bus, and the fight continued outside. At one point, Christopher reportedly had the victim in a choke hold while biting his neck and ear. The man had to be ambulanced to a hospital for injuries suffered to his neck, ear, nose and face.

Christopher was charged with simple Assault for allegedly hitting the woman, and Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury for the incident with the man. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
