Iowa City man facing several charges after traffic stop allegedly turns up drugs and firearm

An Iowa City man could face decades in prison after a traffic stop turned up a firearm and a significant amount of illegal substances.

Officers stopped 42-year-old Larry Johnson of Taylor Drive just after midnight Thursday outside the L&M Mighty Shop for an undisclosed traffic violation  A probable cause search was obtained, and police reportedly located over 64 grams of methamphetamine, over 100 grams of marijuana, a Rugger pistol, and a digital scale, all allegedly belonging to Johnson.

He was previously convicted of Armed Robbery with a Firearm and as such ineligible to carry a weapon.

Johnson was arrested, and charged with Carrying Weapons, Keeping Vehicle for Controlled Substances, a Class B Controlled Substance violation, a Class D controlled substance violation, two charges of Failure to Affix Tax Stamp, and Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon. If convicted on all counts, Johnson could be sentenced to up to 48 years in prison.
