Iowa Representative Marianette Miller-Meeks reports receiving death threats after she changed her vote for Speaker of the House.

Miller-Meeks had initially voted for fellow Republican Jim Jordan of Ohio in his first bid for the speakership on Tuesday. She switched her vote to Kay Granger of Texas during Wednesday’s second vote, which Jordan also lost.

Miller-Meeks said in a statement her office has received “a barrage of threatening calls” that were deemed “credible” because of her switched vote . The threats are currently being investigated by law enforcement.

Miller-Meeks also said in her statement that she had been worried about “threatening tactics” on behalf of Jordan’s supporters even before the first vote.

Bipartisan House members are considering giving interim speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry of North Carolina expanded powers until a full-time Speaker can be chosen.
