Overnight Cedar Rapids fire displaces resident

An overnight fire on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids has displaced a resident.

According to the city’s Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 3800 block of Tahoe Lane Southeast at around 1:15 am on reports of a garage on fire. Upon arrival, they found fire coming from the garage of the residence, extending into the garage’s loft.

The occupant, a 73-year-old man and his dog had evacuated the home prior to firefighter arrival.

The fire was quickly brought  under control. The garage suffered fire damage, with smoke and water damage to the first floor and second story living area of the residence.

There were no injuries. The resident has been temporarily displaced.  Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
