Voters in an Iowa City district will take to the polls Tuesday to decide the City Council candidates for November’s election.

A primary in District A was necessitated by the race between three candidates. City code requires a primary if more than two candidates run in the same district.

The candidates include council member Pauline Taylor, who has represented the district since 2016.

Laura Bergus is the current at-large councilor, but since district boundaries have changed, she now lives in District A. She is also running for another term.

Longtime resident Tim Borchardt is the third candidate. He ran for the 2nd District US House of Representative seat in 2019 but lost in the Republican primary in 2020.

Polling places in District A will be open 7:00 am – 8:00 pm on Tuesday. Those who are unsure where they’re assigned to vote can go to the lookup tool, located at https://gis.johnsoncountyiowa.gov/pollingplaces/  .

Only voters who live in Council District A are eligible to vote in the primary. The top two vote-getters will be on the November 7th ballot.
