The City of Iowa City has committed to a major upgrade to City Park Pool, and will have a series of input sessions for users and other interested parties.

According to a release from the city, 75 summers of constant use has caused significant deterioration and aging, and it’s believed that major changes need to be implemented to make it more inclusive.

All ages are invited to provide their ideas and preferences for a new pool. During these events, community members will view images of possible design elements and have the chance to give feedback on these options. There will be no presentation at these events, and attendees may come and go throughout the two hour windows. Registration is not required.

Session One will be held Friday, October.27th from 2-4pm at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center, while Session Two occurs the same day from 5:30-7:30pm at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, Meeting Room A. The Rec Center session will be held during the annual Halloween Carnival event, so parking may be limited.

Another way to provide input is to be chosen for one of the focus groups who will discuss the new pool and its design.

Groups of 15-20 people will meet privately with the consultant team. Up to 14 focus groups targeting demographics will be recruited that reflect Iowa City’s diversity and represent current pool users, and those who are not currently using the pool.

Those interested should complete the focus group interest form by 5pm on October 30th to be considered for a community focus group.
