A central Iowa man faces charges that he sexually assaulted an acquaintance at an Iowa City apartment complex.
The incident was first reported around 1 a.m. on April 1st after the alleged victim sent a text message to a friend saying he did not feel safe, something was wrong, and to call the police. An investigation determined that 21-year-old Michael Kazma of Des Moines was at the victim’s residence at Rise at Riverfront Crossings on South Linn Street when he indicated he wanted to engage in sexual activity. The alleged victim refused. Kazma then allegedly forced himself on the other party, including briefly performing a sex act against the other man’s will.
Police say the alleged victim suffered a moderate concussion from hitting his head on the door and floor when Kazma reportedly pushed him down. The man was also allegedly slapped by Kazma, and had a red hand print on his side.
Kazma was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4:45 Monday morning and charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
