Iowa turned a Cooper DeJean end-zone interception in the 2nd quarter into 7 points, and DeJean returned a Michigan State punt 70 yards for a late touchdown to lead the Hawkeyes to a 26-16 victory in front of a raucous Kinnick Stadium crowd Saturday night.
Starting quarterback Cade McNamara went 3 for 5 for 46 yards before he left the game in the first quarter for what the team described as a “lower body injury.” Backup Deacon Hill came in and completed 11 of 27 passes for 115 yards and his first career touchdown pass.
Iowa could only muster 61 yards on the ground, and only 222 yards of total offense. Michigan State had 349 yards of total offense, but also had 10 penalties for 94 yards.
Iowa improves to 4-1 and 1-1 in Big Ten play; they return to Kinnick Stadium Saturday to face Purdue in the Homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30, and the game will be streamed on Peacock.
