A Saturday afternoon fire has displaced a Cedar Rapids family from their home.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department says in a media release that they were called to the 1600 block of E Avenue NW on report of a fire coming from the side of a home. Crews arrived to find fire coming from the first floor.

Firefighters who entered the home through the front door found the fire active in a first floor bedroom/office and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

No one was home at the time of the fire; the couple who live there and their child were displaced due to smoke, fire and water damage on the first floor.

It’s unknown if the smoke detectors were working. The incident remains under investigation.
