A Hope House resident being held on a parole violation was charged again this week after a confiscated cellphone allegedly found that he had been conducting hundreds of porn site searches.

Police say 27-year-old Steven Elliott Jr. was on parole for an Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse conviction in September 2022. He was checked into the facility this September 6th for an undisclosed parole violation. On Wednesday morning, a room search was conducted and allegedly discovered a Nokia cellphone and a Verizon “hot spot” labeled as Property of Iowa City Community School District Tech. Cellphones are not allowed at Hope House.

Officials reviewed Elliott’s cellphone use and reportedly discovered hundreds of concerning searches of pornography sites.  Multiple social media apps were also discovered on Elliott’s cellphone being registered under an alias, with his photo attached to them.

Authorities say Elliott appeared to be in communication with others looking for sexual contact, and appeared to follow many accounts belonging to minors.

Elliott was booked into the Johnson County Jail on the parole violation Thursday afternoon. The Department of Corrections requested a detention order with a cash only $10,000 bond.
