Norman Borlaug Elementary in Coralville has recently been awarded a National Blue Ribbon designation.
The Press-Citizen reports the award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for overall academic success or progress in closing achievement gaps.
The school opened in 2012 with the motto, “Every child, every day, whatever it takes to be Borlaug Best.”
They were nominated by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners in February 2022. The process included the school completing over two dozen essays on classroom work, growth models, and how students and the community are engaged with the school.
The school learned about the Blue Ribbon designation last week.
Borlaug Elementary is also designated as a high-reliability school, taking proactive steps to prevent failure and ensure success.
