A road rage incident has led to a felony charge against a Coralville man.
Police say the incident occurred on the 2500 block of Heinz Road in Iowa City the afternoon of August 31st. 52-year-old Seth Calkins of the Iowa Lodge on the Coralville Strip allegedly followed a motorist into the parking lot of the Amazon Hub because of a road rage incident.
Calkins reportedly got a baseball bat out of his truck and approached the victim’s vehicle. He then used the handle end of the bat and reached through the window, hitting the victim’s phone into his face.
The victim got out of his vehicle and approached Calkins, who swung the bat at him and hit him in his left side. Video evidence from Amazon reportedly captured the incident.
A warrant was issued for Calkins’ arrest, and he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Monday morning. He was charged with 1st degree burglary, a Class B Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to 25 years if convicted.
A court appointed attorney will represent Calkins. A No-Contact order was issued by judge Brandon Schrock.
