An Iowa City area transient was arrested Saturday after allegedly breaking into a closed Iowa City drug store and stealing lottery tickets.
Police say 32-year-old Michael Jasso got into the CVS pharmacy in the Old Capitol Center on South Clinton at around 7:45am by pulling up the locked entry gate enough that he could squeeze himself through.
The store hadn’t opened up yet, and Jasso allegedly went through the pharmacy and took several lottery tickets. He left while still in possession of the stolen tickets, and the incident was captured by surveillance video.
Coralville Police detained Jasso within a couple hours of the act, after reportedly finding him wearing the same clothing seen in the surveillance video.
Jasso was charged with 3rd degree Burglary, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
