A Georgia man was taken into custody Saturday night after he allegedly was found with a stolen vehicle.

Iowa City police were made aware of a stolen 2012 Chevy Impala that was downtown.  Officers located the vehicle in the Capital Street parking structure, with 19-year-old Demario Ray Salter of LaGrange Georgia in the driver’s seat.

A stop was attempted, but Salter allegedly fled on foot.  After a several-block chase, he was apprehended.

The Impala was valued at approximately $12,000.

Salter was charged with 1st degree Theft and Interference with Official Acts. He could be sentenced to over ten years in jail if convicted on both counts.
