An Iowa City man was arrested due to an alleged assault that occurred last month.

59-year-old Adrian Stokes went to the victim’s residence the afternoon of August 21st and was let inside. Stokes reportedly got upset when he noticed the woman had missed calls on her cell phone. He then allegedly punched her in the face, pulled her hair, placed his hands on her throat and shoved her against a wall.

The woman was able to break free, but Stokes reportedly followed her and continued his assault.  The woman was able to call 911, causing Stokes to leave the scene. Upon arrival, the victim told officers that Stokes was intoxicated when he arrived. The woman had swelling and pain on the left side of her face and pain in her neck.

A warrant was issued, and Stokes was booked at the Johnson County Jail Monday afternoon. He was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years.

A no-contact order was also requested between the two parties.
