An Iowa City man was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop turned up drugs in his vehicle.

The incident occurred just after 1:30 am on the 1300 block of South Gilbert Street.  Police say when they stopped 28-year-old Nolan Welch, unlawful prescription drugs were in plain view.

A probable cause search found a bag in the back of the vehicle with approximately five grams of marijuana. An electronic cigarette cartridge labeled for marijuana THC was allegedly found under the passenger seat. Additionally, 10 pills of Meloxicam in a prescription bottle and two MDMA pills that field-tested positive for meth were also located.

Welch was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug. If convicted on all charges, he could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
