Tiffin voters overwhelmingly voted to approve a local option sales tax that will go into effect January 1st.

Revenues from the sales and services tax will be 50 percent allocated for property tax relief. The other revenue would be used for “any lawful purpose including, but not limited to, public safety, including fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, parks and recreation, public infrastructure, and economic development.”

All mailed absentee ballots and Safe At Home ballots for this election were already returned before Election Day.  As of 6 PM no provisional ballots had been cast; any determined after that will be reviewed and counted on Monday, following a canvass by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to finalize the results.

295 of 2801 registered voters in Tiffin came out to the polls; a participation rate of 10.53%.
