Iowa City Police warn of man approaching students on Court Hill Trail; ask for public’s help locating subject

The Iowa City Police Department is warning the public of a man allegedly making inappropriate sexual comments to junior high students on the Court Hill Trail on Sept. 13, 2023. Police are actively searching for the subject, and are requesting the public’s help.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, while two junior high students were walking the Court Hill Trail through Court Hill Park. A man followed them to the Muscatine Avenue entrance of Memory Gardens Cemetery, where he then approached them and made sexually explicit comments towards them.

A victim told police that they had encountered the man along the trail earlier the previous week.

Police are actively searching for the subject, who was described by a victim as such:

  • Adult white male
  • Red hair with a red beard
  • Early 30s age
  • Slender, standing about 6′ tall
  • Wearing an orange hoodie and black sweatpants at the time

Police urge parents to be aware of this individual at this time. Police are actively searching for the subject, including searching the area.
