The city of Tiffin is holding a special election today to get approval for a 1% local sales tax.

The tax, if approved, would go into effect January 1st.

Revenues from the sales and services tax would be 50 percent allocated for property tax relief. The other revenue would be used for, according to the language on the Johnson County website, “any lawful purpose including, but not limited to, public safety, including fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, parks and recreation, public infrastructure, and economic development.”

Polls are open from 7am to 8pm.

Further information, including precinct and polling place lookup, is available under the elections page at www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov
