A North Liberty man faces charges that he tried to entice a minor into sex acts.
36-year-old Jose Arturo De La Cruz Garcia of the Holiday Lodge manufactured housing community was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:30 Thursday night. Iowa City Police say De La Cruz Garcia began communicating online with a person who he believed to be under the age of 16. De La Cruz Garcia then allegedly asked the person to meet up with him for sex acts. During the communication, De La Cruz Garcia reportedly stated he had condoms they could use, and that his residence would be empty with no one else there while they were using it.
Police say De La Cruz Garcia arranged to meet the other person at Casey’s on Highway 965, where he was taken into custody by police just before 4:45 Thursday afternoon.
De la Cruz Garcia reportedly admitted to communicating with the other party with the intent to drink alcohol and engage in oral sex. He’s now charged with Enticing a Minor for Sexual Purposes. If convicted, De La Cruz Garcia faces a maximum of five years in prison.
