Mazahir Salih running again for Iowa City council seat

Former Iowa City City Councilor Mazahir Salih has announced she will be running again for a seat on the council.

Salih was on the council from 2018 to 2021 and became the first Sudanese-American to be elected to public office in the United States. She was elected Mayor Pro-Tem in 2020-21.

Salih founded the Center for Worker Justice in 2012, and has been involved in the Black Voices Project, the Downtown District Association, the city’s Community Police Review Board, and currently works with the Iowa City Free Medical Clinic and Immigrant Welcome Network of Johnson County.

She will be running for an at-large seat.
