The Iowa City Community School District was forced to postpone a half-dozen events Thursday due to a shortage of bus drivers.

According to a statement issued by district officials, the six junior high athletic events affected included North Central’s 7th grade silver and 8th grade purple volleyball games, Northwest’s 7th grade green and 8th grade gold volleyball games, and Southeast’s 7th grade football game and 7th grade red volleyball game.

The district said the lack of bus drivers, combined with the large number of district events scheduled for Thursday, gave them no choice but to postpone.

School officials say they’re working with Iowa Central, with whom they contract for their transportation services, in order to prevent similar postponements from happening in the future.

The affected schools’ junior high athletic directors are working to reschedule the postponed games. For more information, visit the Iowa City Community School District Facebook page.
