A Grinnell man who had failed to return to Hope House at the end of July was located and apprehended Tuesday, but not without a fight.

Iowa City Police were called to the area of Linn and Market Streets around 2:30pm for reports of a white man who had just punched an SUV.  Upon arrival, the reporting party directed them to the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Robert Julin.  He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, staggered while walking, swayed while standing, and had the odor of ingested alcohol.  Julin reportedly had difficulty in answering simple questions.

An officer attempted to place Julin under arrest, but he allegedly took off running, ignoring multiple commands to stop. He was caught and reportedly had to have his arms forced behind his back to get him handcuffed.

Two officers suffered abrasions during the incident. Julin’s BAC was measured on a PBT at .236 percent.

Julin was charged with Public Intoxication, Interference with Official Acts causing Injury, and Escape of Felon. If convicted on the counts, he could be sentenced to over six years in prison.
