Two University of Iowa athletes have reached a plea deal as part of an investigation into illegal gambling among current and former athletes of both the U of I and Iowa State.

The Press-Citizen reports former kicker Aaron Blom and baseball player Gehrig Christensen were among five athletes who entered guilty pleas to underage gambling Wednesday. The Iowa State athletes that reached a plea deal were quarterback Hunter Dekkers and linemen Dodge Sauser and Jacob Remsburg.

All five were initially charged with tampering with records as part of a gambling scheme, an aggravated misdemeanor that could have carried a two-year prison sentence if found guilty. Those charges were dropped and the five agreed to plead guilty to underage gambling. In exchange for paying a $645 fine, no additional criminal charges will be filed.

The ongoing investigation has so far implicated more than three dozen current and former athletes from the University of Iowa and Iowa State.
