Two Iowa State athletes involved in the statewide gambling investigation have been charged with felony Identity Theft.

The Gazette reports current Denver Broncos player Eyioma Uwazurike and wrestler Paniro Johnson were charged in Story County.  All previous charges involving current and former athletes have been for tampering with records.

Uwazurike  played defensive lineman for Iowa State between 2016 and 2021; he was drafted by the Broncos in 2022.  He allegedly placed over 800 bets totaling over $21,000 between February 2021 and July 2022.

Johnson, in his second season as an Iowa State wrestler, placed nearly 1300 bets totaling more than $45,000.

The two allegedly used another person’s identifying information for their benefit so they could create accounts with sports betting companies and place bets from those accounts.

The article adds both men have pleaded not guilty to both charges, and are scheduled for separate jury trials October 24th in Story County District Court.
