A transient is accused of spitting on a security guard and a police officer in separate incidents.

57-year-old Anthony Harper was wanted by Iowa City Police after he reportedly spit on a security guard at the Old Capitol Town Center on August 17th. According to arrest reports, at 4:15 that afternoon the guard was following Harper, who turned around and accused the man of harassing him. Harper then allegedly spit in the guard’s face and told him to watch his back.

Police found Harper at the North Dodge Hy-Vee just after 8:00 Friday night following reports that he was harassing customers. As he was being searched incident to arrest, Harper allegedly yelled obscenities at the officer and spit in his face.

Harper is charged with Simple Assault and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
