Iowa City city councilor Laura Bergus has filed the official papers to be a candidate in the upcoming council election. However, this time the current at-large councilor will be running in District A.
While the city’s districts spread out candidates geographically, city council members are elected by voters throughout Iowa City. Each city council member serves the entire city.
Bergus says she wanted to run in District A because she now lives in the district. District A includes nearly all of the South District and most of the west side of Iowa City.
