The Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center is continuing its push for financial donations after recently taking in dozens of dogs at once.
On Thursday, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Emergency Management, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and Last Home Animal Rescue conducted an investigation at a kennel at 3027 500th St. SW between Hills and Frytown. That incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
The animal center had initially asked for a donation of a variety of items, but those requests were filled by Friday night due to overwhelming public response. The center had to order a storage pod to store the overflow of donations.
Sunday night, the Center put out a request for a freestanding outdoor kennel at least 6 by 8 foot in new or good condition, to improve the shelter time of the dogs in their care. They only have room for two, so the public is asked to contact the center at 319-356-5295 before dropping one off.
The Iowa City Animal Center is now seeking monetary donations to help cover warehouse rental for storage and animals, medical care, transportation and other needs. Donations are being taken through their website, www.icanimalcenter.org. Donations are also being accepted through Venmo and Paypal.
The Animal Care and Adoption Center will remain closed today (August 28th), but those with scheduled appointments can still come to the shelter and call 319-356-5295.
At this time, the 131 dogs seized are being evaluated and are expected to be ready for adoption at a later date.
