An area transient was taken into custody on a warrant stemming from an alleged vehicle burglary from earlier this year.

According to police, the incident occurred on Dryden Court just before 3am on June 3rd.  30-year-old Michael Amling was reportedly observed attempting to enter vehicles in the area.  He approached one resident’s vehicle and attempted to open the door. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

Amling allegedly removed $700 in cash from another vehicle parked in a resident’s driveway.  The victim didn’t know Amling, nor did they give permission for him to be on their property or touch their vehicle.

Police were able to pull Amling’s fingerprints from the vehicles for identification.

A warrant was issued, and Amling was arrested Sunday. He’s been charged with 3rd degree burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, 4th degree theft, and tampering with a motor vehicle. If convicted on the charges, Amling could be sentenced to over three years in jail.
