A Louisa County man is accused of grabbing a woman without her consent at a downtown Iowa City bar, then fighting with responding police.
Iowa City Police were called to The Sports Column of South Dubuque Street just before 1:15 Sunday morning for a man who was continually grabbing and hugging a woman without her permission, despite her attempts to push him away. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Tariq Green of Wapello, was detained by Sports Column staff until police could arrive.
Green reportedly began fighting with the arriving officers, with one suffering a shoulder injury during the ensuing scuffle. Police say Green continued to make racial statements and threats towards them as he was being placed into custody.
Green is charged with Assault, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, and Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
