An Iowa City man has been charged after a parole visit at his residence turned up a quantity of marijuana.

An officer from the Hearings and Release Unit conducted a home visit on 52-year-old Paul Cox the morning of August 18th.  The officer allegedly observed in plain sight two bongs, a small black scale, and a small amount of green leafy material loosely scattered on a table.  Cox reportedly admitted the marijuana was his, and had purchased it for approximately $70.

The officer then allegedly found individually packaged marijuana bud in the pocket of a zip-up sweatshirt hanging on a wall behind a door.

Cox also reportedly admitted smoking marijuana and meth the previous night.

Cox was arrested for a parole violation and charged with first offense marijuana possession. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.

Cox was released from the Johnson County Jail Thursday morning pending future legal proceedings.
