Iowa City man with history of motorcycle thefts allegedly caught in the act

An Iowa City man who has a history of motorcycle and moped thefts was allegedly caught in the act by a a witness attempting to steal a motorcycle this week.

The witness reported seeing 35-year-old Rashaud Lee of Hollywood Boulevard stealing a beige Honda cycle in the alley south of 713 East Burlington Street at around 3 in the afternoon Wednesday.  Lee allegedly was observed manipulating the Honda and looking around, trying to avoid attention. He then walked away from the motorcycle, but returned after a short time.

Lee was standing next to the Honda when officers arrived.  He then walked away. When stopped, Lee reportedly had screws in his pockets that fit the motorcycle perfectly.  Officers allege parts of the Honda had been removed in an apparent attempt to hotwire the vehicle.

Lee was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Theft, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
