An Iowa City man was arrested after allegedly going after his intimate partner with a machete.

Police say the incident occurred just before 1pm on Tuesday at the couple’s residence.  56-year-old Lawson Morrison reportedly attacked the woman by continuously pushing and grabbing her in a forceful manner.  At one point, Morrison allegedly grabbed her right arm and hit her with a chair, causing pain to the arm, neck and back.

The woman told officers that Morrison came at her with a machete and put her in fear for her life. She reportedly had bruises and a large red mark on her right arm.

The couple have been in an intimate relationship and have lived together on and off for the past six years.

Morrison has two prior Domestic Assault convictions, and was charged with a third offense, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.  A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
