A Wisconsin man has been arrested after allegedly cutting another man with scissors during an argument over the use of racial slurs.
Iowa City Police were called to a reported stabbing at an Iowa City Transit bus shelter on Boyrum Street just before 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Witnesses said Shane Strub of Milwaukee had been shouting racial slurs when the alleged victim crossed the street to confront him. A fight ensued, and Strub allegedly cut the other man’s right hand with scissors. Police say they found Strub nearby with blood on his face and the scissors in his pocket.
Strub is charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
Arrest records show Saturday was also Strub’s 38th birthday.
