Allegedly stealing a dog while violating a no-contact order has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Iowa City Police were called just after 8:30 Tuesday night for a report of a subject entering an apartment on East Davenport Street and stealing a dog. The suspect…35-year-old Devonte Autman…had previously lived at the residence with the alleged victim. The resident has a no-contact order in place relating to an August 10th incident where Autman was charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury and 2nd Offense Domestic Abuse Assault.

Police say Autman violated the order almost immediately upon his release from the Johnson County Jail on Monday. As a result, he was booked back into the Johnson County Jail just before 12:45 Tuesday morning. He was released less than ten hours later, with a new no-contact order put into place. The ICPD Daily Activity Log shows Autman’s former roommate requested extra patrol of the area following Autman’s release. Police say Autman then violated the new no-contact order when he entered the East Davenport Street apartment and stole the dog.

Autman was booked into the Johnson County Jail for a third time just after 2:45 Wednesday morning and charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and another no-contact order violation. If convicted on all current charges against him, Autman faces a maximum of 17 years in prison.
